Requirements in foundries
Castings carry release agents, burrs and residues that have to be removed reliably before further processing. Robust cleaning and deburring processes are required that can handle different materials and geometries.
At TeSe, the focus is above all on die-cast parts — in both large and small series.

Suitable processes
Which process fits best depends on the part, the contamination and the batch size — we advise on a technology-neutral basis. For this industry, the following are particularly relevant:
- High-pressure cleaning and deburring — cleaning and deburring with the high-pressure water jet (systems from RL Automation)
- Wet-chemical cleaning — aqueous or solvent-based cleaning of release agents and residues; also degreasing with hydrocarbon (e.g. ZET clean 56S) in systems from Karl Roll GmbH
- Vibration cleaning — cleaning and deburring by vibration
Downstream processes: what the cleaning pays into
For castings, cleaning is typically followed by machining, coating and painting, impregnation, assembly and leak testing. Each of these steps requires a sufficiently clean, burr-free surface — which is why the cleanliness target is based on the next process step.
Measurement and quality assurance
Testing depends on the part and the customer’s requirements. Visual (optical) inspections are common; in-house, the contact angle measurement and the high-resolution microscope are also available. Further analyses are defined by the customer depending on the industry, and TeSe supports them in part.
Practical example
A manufacturer of die-cast parts — including door fittings and connector housings — degreases its aluminium and zinc die-cast parts after blasting and polishing in a system from Karl Roll GmbH. The medium used is a hydrocarbon from ZET-Chemie (ZET clean 56S). This leaves the parts clean and residue-free for the subsequent further processing.
